This just in (or out, as the case may be)

Today, I couldn’t button my shorts. The Belly wouldn’t have it.

I’m 13 weeks along, today. I’ve only gained the ~2 lbs recommended for the first trimester, but my belly has already made an appearance. Scott grins every time he sees it, and I try to suck it in, but there’s nowhere for it to go. 🙂

What? You want to see a picture? Nope, sorry. I decided early on that the belly shots weren’t so much going to happen for me. Especially in this stage of looking “thick” instead of pregnant, the camera is not The Belly’s best friend.

What is The Belly’s best friend? Take your pick: Original hummus from Sunflower market on triscuits with extra salt on top, Anne’s homemade bean dip* on blue corn tortilla chips, or cold fresh strawberries, sliced. Those three foods have been on the menu every day for the last week. Mmmm… boy! (or girl?) 🙂

*Tricky recipe: Some non-fat Taco Bell refried beans from a can, stirred into an equal amount of Pace Picante salsa. Warm it up in the microwave, add a little salt if you’re really feeling pregnant, and enjoy!

So happy to hear it! I’m excited to see The Belly when you come out. However, I promise not to rub it.

It’s going to be so funny to see you when you are 9 months pregnant. You are so tall and skinny it’s going to look like you are hiding a basketball under your shirt! It’s fun when you start to show, it makes it feel real, just wait until you feel the baby kick, it’s exciting:)

Yay for maternity clothes! Do you have any yet?

  3. beanland says:

Nope, no maternity clothes yet. In fact, I was just looking at some online and I’m a bit frightened of them. Particularly because the “fit” and “style” of maternity clothes are a mystery to me.

I tend to be a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl, and there are no less than 5 distinct styles of maternity jeans that one must choose from before getting to the only part of jean selection I know: always choose boot-cut. Roll-top, full-panel, real-waist (AKA you-only-get-to-wear-me-for-like-2 weeks), etc. It’s enough to make the head spin.

I take heart in your “basketball under your shirt” comment, though. That should make it easy enough to find clothes that will fit for the full pregnancy: just bring a basketball to the store with me! 🙂

Definitely a boy… salty = boy, sweet = girl (although the strawberries threw me off there).

Can’t wait to see you on Wednesday!
