When she turned and flashed her dimples at me
Caitlyn took off walking.
She’d been teasing with a couple steps here or there for over a month, maybe because she knew it was my very favorite baby milestone and she wanted to milk it for all it was worth.
But on this day? She wanted to get from point A to point B and she sized up the distance and set out on foot.
Point B was pretty tempting: A friend’s little boy was clutching a sippy cup almost within arm’s reach. But he saw her making a move and backed slowly away from her, guarding his cup carefully. She dutifully kept taking steps, arms outstretched hoping to touch that fabulous blue plastic.
Inwardly I cheered. Ok, outwardly I cheered and danced like a maniac as well. It’s exhilarating to see your child conquer something so challenging.
Caitlyn has a killer smile and her face lit right up, dimples and all when she realized what she’d done.
Look out world. 🙂
(She took her first step at 9 1/2 months, but she walked in earnest at 10 1/2 months just like her sister.)
