Nearly every Saturday of the Summer and Fall, you can find us at the farmer’s market.

We tend to chat the farmers up about the varieties of produce they sell, and we loyally visit the same booths throughout the season when we find something grown particularly well.

Take the Melon Man, for instance. This last Saturday he saw us coming a mile away, and greeted us with a big smile. He pointed to his best yellow watermelon of the week and smilingly handed Mackenzie her own patty pan squash, no charge. He noticed I had my camera on hand (the first time this year) and offered to put Mackenzie up his truck for a photo op.

(Yes, we buy that many watermelons in the summer. 🙂 )

We indulged in some more heirloom tomatoes before the end of the season:

Discovered “puff ball” mushrooms the size of our heads:

Wussed out and passed by the sweet potato greens:

Patted police horses:

… and put the camera away ten seconds too soon. That horse chomped HARD on Scott’s hand and he was not happy!
